Tim Bruniges

Alumni

is a visual artist and musician living and working in Sydney.

In addition to having recently completed the highly sought-after Green Street Studio residency in New York City, he’s composed music for feature films and was a founding member of the Australian band, The Dead Sea. Most recently Tim presented a video work titled HORSES, as part of the Sydney Film Festival which features stunning imagery of harsh landscapes alive with herds of wild horses.

Tim is a UNSW Art & Design graduate and current PhD candidate. He has modelled his aesthetic on that of pioneering photographer and filmmaker, Eadweard Muybridge, who after murdering his wife’s lover, undertook photographic work that would lay the foundation for the American motion picture industry. One of Muybridge’s methods (which is explored by Tim Bruniges) relied on processing hundreds of simultaneous images of animals and laying them out in quick sequential order. The result is the appearance of movement but confusion over the passage of time.
