Artwork Title: Morpheus

Morpheus is a 2D hand-drawn animation created in Adobe Photoshop.

Its psychedelic-like nature was inspired by Disney's experimental phase in the 1940s, in particular Dumbo's (1941) "Pink Elephants On Parade".

Artwork Title: Basement

Basement. 3D rendered scene, 23 seconds. My scene depicts a Ukrainian basement in the aftermath of the ongoing 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, where Ukraine is victorious in its fight for independence. The design and placement of objects within the space are largely influenced by my Ukrainian friend’s descriptions and photographs of her own apartment’s basement in Dnipro. It is an old basement that had been used as a temporary air-raid shelter and has since been abandoned as civilians have left the scene (hopefully in victory). Bright drawings decorate one of the walls, and its innocence juxtaposes against the many signs of violence and war: the charred and broken wall, the broken brick debris, the Molotov cocktails and supplies, and the medical box. The chamomile is illuminated in light and thus draws attention to it and its symbolism of rebirth and peace. This work conveys my hope that the war will end before the year’s end.

Hey! I’m Ren Luk (they/he), and I’m a media artist who specialises in 3D visualisation and animation. I enjoy creating and consuming media that is emotional, that comes from the heart and reflects on the human character. I have a passion for telling stories through 3D modelling, animation, and asset and environmental design: many objects and places tell of a history of humans, and there are many untold stories hidden within the details. I think that such details are sometimes small but important as they work together to tell a greater story.
