Jess Curran, Dualities, 2024 acrylic on linen, oil on canvas, embroidery hoops, assorted glass
beads, thread.

Dualities is a series of small embroidered oil paintings that zooms in on lived experiences of binge eating. Sumptuous glass beads have been hand-embroidered onto these surfaces, ornamenting grotesque scenes of consumption. The series plays with the tension between attraction and repulsion, guilt and pleasure, restriction and indulgence, toying with the viewer’s feelings of lure and disgust.
