Artist statement

I want a Careful Idol is two works and a shelf made using plywood, pastel crayon, coloured pencil, acrylic paint, and wood carving to present a vision of two monuments or a casual shrine. They were created using a process of layering, combining different methods of mark making to render the final images (a face and headstone), soft and uncertain. The work endeavours to explore clarities of vision and the certainty of symbols. Materially, it explore the malleability of mediums, how one may be practiced using another.
