My artistic practice sits in Printmaking. The title of my work is ‘Guluga - Our Mother Mountain’, all 13 clans of the (South Coast, NSW) derive from her - I pay respect to the stories and language of my people, I’m a proud descendant of two of the 13 clans which are the Djiringanj and Jerrinja peoples of the YUIN nation. After learning from Elders down south, I see the image in my mind’s eye. That’s where I begin. I used a lot of landscape images as a guide for my designs, overlaying images and visualising the environment to create the scene, while keeping true to the knowledge I’ve been given. The intricate designs throughout my work are ones I’ve been gifted from elders and knowledge holders. I then go through the process of sketching the design on the Lino and then the process of printmaking onto canson editioning paper.Through my works I want to be able to show not only the beauty and importance of our wildlife but also the importance of language, designs and knowledge from my people.
