Career opportunities

Mechanical Engineering

Mechanical Engineering are intertwined at all points in the process. Everything we use on a daily basis is mechanically engineered, and at one time manufactured. Mechanical Engineers design, build, test and maintain machines.

Want to land yourself in a career designing and building machines while contributing to the future of our planet? This is the field for you. Career opportunities are endless for Mechanical Engineers – from developing motor vehicles, ships and aircraft, to working with robots, or marketing and selling machines you’re constructing. It’s the most employable field of engineering for a reason.

Career options include:

  • Designing vehicles from cars to spacecraft

  • Analysing acoustics for planning a building

  • Designing a suitable power system

  • Designing and developing next generation machines for aiding the disabled

  • Designing and manufacturing industrial robots

  • Using computer integration to automate a chemical manufacturing facility

  • Developing processes to fabricate nano-devices

  • Finding a cost-effect facility layout alternative for an aerospace manufacturing company

Mechatronics Engineering

In the age of smart machines, gain the specialised knowledge needed to create smarter innovative machines that increase human capability across a variety of industries, including health and manufacturing. Mechatronic Engineers work in all aspects of the development of the smart machine – from design and testing right through to manufacture.

Using the knowledge and skills of Mechanical, Electrical and Control Systems Engineering and Computer Science, Mechatronic Engineers develop autonomous systems, such as smart machines and self-operating robots.

Employment of mechatronics and robotics engineers is projected to grow faster than other jobs. Mechatronic engineers work in all aspects of the development of the smart machine – from design and testing right through to manufacture. You could work in industries like robotics, medical and assistive technology, human-machine interaction, manufacturing, unmanned aerial and ground vehicles and education.

Career options include:

  •  Robotics Engineer

  • Automation Engineer

  • Control Systems Engineer

  • Electronics Design Engineer

The Co-op Program allowed me to experience different industries and gain experience that you cannot obtain from study alone. All of my placements were at different companies in different industries which allowed me to network with a variety of professionals. This gave me a great opportunity to figure out what I wanted to do after graduation with regards to how I'd like to mould my career and the different experiences and projects I got to work on were extremely useful in the interview process when I started looking for graduate work.
