Internship; Master of Public Health (MPH) with International Health Specialisation

Mode of study :

Part-time; External by Distance

Country :

United Kingdom (UK)

Previous Education :

Bachelor of Pharmacy (USyd)

I decided to enrol in the internship because I had been working on the Master of Public Health (International Health Specialisation) through distance education whilst practising as a pharmacist. The internship was a great opportunity to actively engage with the field of international public health by learning and building new skills, networking with professionals working in public health, contribute to projects in the international health sphere and help inform future career decisions.

Which organisation were you placed with?

United Nations University – Institute of International Global Health in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

What has been the most rewarding thing about your internship?

The most rewarding aspect of the internship was being able to contribute to health policies that were affecting populations on a global scale and being guided through the process by professionals who have invaluable insight and knowledge in the field. It also offered the opportunity to get involved in wider regional events run by the United Nations to gain an idea of the scope of work that the organisations do and meet people from various career pathways working in international health.

Would you recommend the internship program to other students and why?

Definitely! It is a great way to learn new skills, gain experience in the public health field and meet many new people who have come to public health from various fields and learn from their experience and stories by asking lots of questions!

How do you think the internship will assist you in your future career?

It was a great opportunity to learn what skills I would need to develop and different approaches to working in the field. The internship was also a great way to network with experienced professionals who had a wealth of experience and advice to offer.

Any other feedback?

I felt incredibly well supported throughout the process and my academic supervisor was always available to answer any questions and review my work, which was extremely helpful during the busy term that I had. A huge thank you to all the staff for allowing me to have this wonderful experience!
