Tulla Carson, a multidisciplinary designer and sessional academic, situated within Dharawal Country along NSW’s south coast, works within the nexus of design and research. Her upbringing in the hinterland of the Northern Rivers, NSW, instilled a profound interest in the environment, cultural knowledge and the entities that we coexist with. Her explorations span various mediums and realms, traversing topics such as ecology, colonialism, sensory connections, human-nature relationships and the more-than-human world.

Her academic journey culminated in a Bachelor of Design (Honours), within Social change and Critical Futures, from the University of New South Wales, Art, Design and Architecture, where she received the University Award in recognition of outstanding academic achievement. Her current focus in postgraduate research delves into Relationality, Indigenous Knowledge, Cross-Cultural Design methodologies and Design Anthropology. Her work seeks to understand our interconnectedness within the ecosystems we inhabit and the importance of cultivating human-nature relationships in order to move towards a collective future based on reciprocity and custodianship.

As a sessional academic, Tulla has experience teaching into the following courses at UNSW Art, Design & Architecture within the Masters of Design and Bachelor of Design: Critical Approaches to Design SDES9210, Design Project Research DDES3100, Design Collaboration Studio 1 FADA1010, Textiles 1 DDES1160, Design Professional Practice DDES2102 and Objects 1 DDES1120.

Beyond academia, Tulla extends her contributions to the domains of built environment and cultural heritage. Working within cultural research, design interpretation and community consultation, she works within a team passionate about designing better spaces which reflect the Country, stories and significance of the land they're built within.
