Dr Amy Gibson

Dr Amy Gibson is an epidemiologist with extensive experience in academic research, research support, and postgraduate teaching in the university setting. She holds undergraduate degrees in Bachelor of Science (Hons) and Bachelor of Arts. Dr Gibson completed her Master of Public Health at the University of Sydney in 2004 and earned her PhD from UNSW Sydney in 2009. With over 20 years of experience in clinical and linked data public health research, she has collaborated with multidisciplinary teams and has held positions at the Centre for Big Data Research in Health, School of Population Health, Centre for Primary Health Care and Equity, and the National Drug and Alcohol Research Centre at UNSW Sydney.

Dr Gibson possesses expertise in contracted linked data research, bespoke data linkage with multiple health districts, and co-designing linked data assets in partnership with government and research stakeholders. She has worked closely with IT developers to create and manage cloud-based research infrastructure, overseen data access agreements and ethics approvals, and coordinated a major training contract with the Australian Government Department of Health.

In addition to her research, Dr. Gibson has five years of postgraduate teaching experience at UNSW Sydney. She has developed, convened, and taught courses such as the Context of Health Data Science and Dissertations for the MSc in Health Data Science. Furthermore, she has developed online training courses and served as a casual teaching academic for the Foundations of Epidemiology course in the Masters of Public Health program.
