Co-Curricular Activities Following initial placement on the salary schedule, subsequent annual advancement through step 14 will be dependent on satisfactory completion of relevant co-curricular activities. For steps 15 to 19, three of the five annual advancements may also be based on satisfactory completion of co-curricular activities. The other two advancements (or more if the faculty member chooses not to use co-curricular activities) will be contingent on completion of the educational activities and projects enumerated (Article 23.1.3 of the GCFA Contract). In order to earn advancement on steps 1-14 and on any three of the five career increment steps 15-19 on the faculty salary schedule, the faculty member must document participation in a minimum of 38 hours per academic year of approved co-curricular activities. These activities may include institutional, professional, and/or community activities and may not include activities scheduled as flex activities, approved for track advancement, or for which the faculty member receives compensation in salary or release time. Appropriate activities include (but are not limited to) the following: A. Activities related to institutional governance, planning, and support: 1. Active participation in college standing and ad hoc committees (i.e. president's council, faculty senate, strategic planning, accreditation committees, selection committee, instructional program review, Faculty Professional Learning Committee, curriculum committee, scholarship committee, facilities and grounds committee, FSA appeals committee, graduation committee, etc.). 2. Active involvement in student activities, clubs, and organizations. Active involvement in student mentoring, tutoring, and advising. 4. Active involvement with recruitment and articulation. 5. Preparation of grant proposal and grant management. B. Professional Activities: 1. Active participation in professional organizations. 2. Publication in journals, etc. 3. Conference, seminar, workshop presentations and attendance. 4. G.C.F.A., Cabinet, and Grievance Officer. C. Community Activities: 1. Participation in community service organizations, committees, councils, commissions, etc. 2. Attendance at college events/functions (i.e., graduation, awards ceremonies, performances, etc.). 3. Involvement with government educational agencies, councils, groups, etc. The co-curricular activities will be approved by the Faculty Professional Learning Committee and the Vice President of Instructional Services. A report form will be submitted April 1 of each academic year for step advancement consideration for the following year. The report will include all activities expected to be completed through June 30 of that year.
