Dr Gilad Bino
Dr. Gilad Bino is a researcher at the Centre for Ecosystem Science, UNSW Sydney, specialising in freshwater ecology and conservation biology. His work primarily focuses on understanding the processes and threats that influence biodiversity across various spatial and temporal scales, aiming to inform and prioritise conservation management strategies. Leading the Platypus Conservation Initiative, Dr. Bino has been instrumental in advancing research on the platypus (Ornithorhynchus anatinus), a unique and iconic Australian species. His efforts include extensive monitoring and evaluation of platypus populations, as well as promoting their conservation. Dr. Bino's research extends to the impacts of human activities on biodiversity and freshwater ecosystems. He has developed innovative methods to address the conservation challenges facing Australia's freshwater environments, collaborating with state and federal agencies to enhance ecosystem management.
