What advice would you give to students who are unsure about choosing the right degree for their interests and career aspirations?

Take your time to explore your options. It’s perfectly fine to take a break from studying if you’re uncertain about your path. I jumped straight into a degree right after high school but later realised it wasn’t the right fit for me. Returning to study Interior Design after gaining some work experience truly ignited my passion for the field. Real-world experience can be a powerful guide in discovering what you’re truly passionate about.

What unexpected skills did you gain from your degree that you have taken into your current role and why has it been so valuable?

My degree in Interior Architecture provided me with a solid foundation in CAD design and an understanding of how to create compelling narratives through design. These skills have

been invaluable in my current role, allowing me to explore and maximise the potential of interior spaces effectively. The ability to tell a story through design is a core element that I continually apply in my work.

What extracurricular activities, work integrated learning programs or other opportunities helped you develop personally and professionally and how did you manage to balance them with your studies?

As a mature student working full-time, I sought out employment that complemented my studies, such as working as an interior stylist. Balancing work and study was challenging but incredibly rewarding. Gaining practical experience in my field while studying provided me with a deeper understanding of the material and its real-world applications. It also helped me connect the dots between classroom learning and industry practice

What role have the friendships and networks you made throughout your studies at UNSW played in your personal and professional life?

The connections I made at UNSW have been crucial both personally and professionally. Networking with tutors, lecturers, and classmates opened doors to job opportunities and provided ongoing support. These relationships have offered valuable insights and continued professional development. The friendships I formed during my degree remain strong, and I rely on these connections, almost daily, for support and guidance in my career.
