UNSW’s Master of Architecture/Master of Property and Development is a postgraduate double degree that combines a professional education in the practice and theory of architecture with a commercial understanding of how buildings are developed and managed.

Completing both degrees will provide you with a competitive advantage in industry, with broader career options across both architectural practice and property development and the ability to lead multi-disciplinary project teams.You’ll also learn modern principles of property investment, development, and management and lead the way in addressing challenges in the built environment, such as climate change, health, and well-being.

Entry requirements

You must satisfy the entry requirements for the UNSW Master of Architecture and Master of Property and Development single award programs to enter the double award.

You will need to have completed a nationally accredited undergraduate degree (or equivalent) in architecture with grades at a consistent credit level (65 WAM) or higher. If you don't meet the entry requirements, you may be able to demonstrate work experience combined with undergraduate studies in architecture instead.

If you study the UNSW Bachelor of Interior Architecture (Honours) you can be eligible for the Master of Architecture if you undertake the architecture elective pathway and achieve an overall WAM of 65. However, if you've never studied architecture at a tertiary level, you should consider applying for the Bachelor of Architectural Studies.

English language requirements

You may be asked to provide evidence of your English proficiency to study at UNSW depending on your educational background and citizenship. English language skills are vitally important for coping with lectures, tutorials, assignments and examinations - this is why UNSW requires a minimum English language competency for enrolment.

If you’re completing an Australian Year 12 qualification (e.g. NSW HSC or equivalent), you do not need to provide anything extra to prove your proficiency. Your qualification will be used as evidence of your English proficiency.

If you do need to provide evidence of your English proficiency, this will be indicated in your application. You can prove this by providing evidence that you meet one or more of the following criteria:

Program structure

You can complete the Master of Architecture/Master of Property and Development double degree in as little as 3 years full-time. Students are able to complete dual masters in less time due to the comparable elective courses in both degrees.

Master of Architecture

You'll complete 72 UOC (10 core courses) to gain advanced knowledge across Architectural Design, Professional Practice, Research, Construction and Structures and Environment and building services.

Master of Property and Development

You'll complete 60 UOC (8 core courses) to gain critical knowledge in Property like, performance analysis, investment and finance, valuation, development and feasibility, asset and facilities management, real property law, and research.

Prescribed electives

You'll complete 6 UOC (one course) from any of the prescribed electives listed in Master of Architecture or Master of Property Development

You'll choose 6 UOC (one course) in a prescribed list to deep dive into advanced themes or topics in Australian Architecture and Urbanism.
