  • The Indigenous Pre-Programs are three-week intensive residential programs held at UNSW’s Kensington campus in Sydney. The pathway programs are delivered by Nura Gili in partnership with UNSW faculties and schools in the areas of Business, Education, Law, Medicine, Social Work, or Science & Engineering.

The Science and Engineering Indigenous Pre-Program is an alternative entry pathway for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students. The three-week residential program is jointly managed by Nura Gili and the Faculties of Science and Engineering and is designed to provide support and training to better prepare students for study in the fields of Science and Engineering.

Students jumpstart their STEM journey through unique experiences that are tailored toward their interests and future goals. The program includes cultural awareness and community-building activities to help students feel comfortable as new members of the UNSW community. Students also have the opportunity to gain hands-on experiences in the STEM areas they’re most interested in, build lasting relationships with staff and students, and participate in cultural experiences.

  • The Indigenous Australian Engineering School (IAES) is an annual residential program, established and funded by an initiative of Engineering Aid Australia.

IAES is conducted in Sydney and is hosted by UNSW Faculty of Engineering on behalf of Engineering Aid.

We welcome applications from Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students who will be in Year 10, 11, or 12 in 2025 from across Australia.

    The Program

The program features a week of engaging activities designed to highlight the field of engineering. You’ll meet engineers and discover the vital role engineering plays in the community.

You'll stay on campus for six days, experience university life firsthand, make new friends, and gain a clearer understanding of engineering as both a field of study and a career path.

  • UNSW Engineering offers Equity and Merit Indigenous Scholarships, as well as dedicated industry-specific scholarships for students pursuing eligible degrees.

  • The First Nations Engineering and Science Society (FNESS) at UNSW is a dynamic community of First Nations students in science and engineering. FNESS strives to be a prominent society, providing support to its members and engaging in projects such as their Boomerang Drone initiative.
