We offer a range of scholarships to undergraduate and postgraduate students, domestic and international. Most of the scholarships recognise academic achievement while others may be awarded to address personal circumstances, including financial need.Ìý

Undergraduate Scholarships

  • Value: $12,000 per annum 

    Duration: Up to 5 years 

    Program Requirement: Be commencing full-time undergraduate study (single or dual degree) in the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) – Mining 

    Additional Eligibility Requirements: 

    • Have completed the NSW HSC (or interstate equivalent) or IB, either: 
      • in the year prior to commencing study at UNSW, or 
      • in the previous two years prior to commencing at UNSW, provided no tertiary study was undertaken during this period.Ìý
    • Your family home has to be or have been located in a rural or isolated area* for at least four of your high school years 
    • You should have attended secondary school in a rural or isolated area* for at least four years (exemption: rural students in receipt of a scholarship to attend a metropolitan secondary boarding school) 

    *Rural areas will generally be considered according to the Australian Standard Geographical Classification – Remoteness Areas. You can find out the ASGC classification of your home and school addresses using .Ìý 

    The ASGC classifications accepted under this program are: RA2 (with the exception of Hobart), RA3, RA4 or RA5. Students whose family home is located in RA2 to RA5, but who have received a scholarship to attend a RA1 (or Hobart) boarding school are also eligible to apply.Ìý

  • Value: $10,000 per annum 

    Duration: Remaining minimum duration of program, up to 4 years 

    Program Requirement: Be currently enrolled in your 2nd year of full-time undergraduate study (single or dual degree) in the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) – Mining 

  • Value: $10,000 per annum 

    Duration: Minimum duration program, up to 5 years 

    Program Requirement: Be commencing full-time undergraduate study (single or dual degree) in any degree program offered by the School of Minerals and Energy Resources Engineering 

    Additional Eligibility Requirements: 

    • Be female 
    • Have completed the NSW HSC (or interstate equivalent) or IB, either: 
      • in the year prior to commencing study at UNSW, or 
      • in the previous two years prior to commencing at UNSW, provided no tertiary study was undertaken during this period.Ìý
  • Value: $12,000 per annum 

    Duration: Remaining minimum duration of program

    Program Requirement: Be currently enrolled as a Flexible First year student within the Faculty of Engineering, and be transferring to full-time undergraduate study (single or double) in Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) in Mining Engineering.

  • Value: $12,000 per annum 

    Duration: Remaining minimum duration of program, up to 2 years 

    Program Requirement: Have successfully completed two years (160 credits) of a Bachelor of Engineering (Mining Transfer Program) at the University of Newcastle; and be commencing the third year of undergraduate study (single or double degree) in Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Mining) at UNSW.

  • UNSW Minerals Industry Scholarship - commencing

    Value: $12,000 per annum 

    Duration: Remaining minimum duration of program

    Program Requirement: Be commencing full-time undergraduate study (single or double degree) in the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Mining) at UNSW.

    UNSW Minerals Industry Scholarship – commencing & rural

    Value: $12,000 per annum 

    Duration: Remaining minimum duration of program

    Program Requirement: Be commencing full-time undergraduate study (single or double degree) in the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Mining) at UNSW and be a rural applicant.

Tips and tricks for applying for MERE Scholarships and Awards

The scholarships at the School of Minerals and Energy Resources Engineering can be accessed by both domestic and international students, at any educational level. Scholarships can seem daunting to apply for especially if you are applying directly out of High School. Here are some tips to ease the application process.
