  • The Sydney Student Chapter is a community belonging to the Australian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy and managed by an elected committee of students. Based in UNSW, we provide professional development opportunities for students to interact with peers and connect with mentors through technical and social activities.

We hold several professional development events every year that bring industry representatives from small and large companies to meet students. Our flagship event, the Student Meets Industry Night, provides an opportunity to speak directly to sponsoring companies for a competitive advantage in graduate roles or internship applications. Other events we support include our Young Professionals’ Dinner, the New Leaders’ Conference and Mining Games and regular sponsored barbecues.

Elections for the committee are held annually and we encourage all students to apply. Please contact us via email or .

  • UNSW MERESoc is a student-run organization dedicated to fostering a strong sense of community among students in the mining and petroleum engineering programs. MERESoc organizes a variety of networking and social events throughout the academic year, providing valuable opportunities for students to connect with industry professionals and peers alike.

Through partnerships with leading mining and petroleum companies, MERESoc provides students with the chance to engage with industry experts, learn about new technologies and best practices, and build valuable connections that can help them succeed in their future careers.

In addition to its networking events, MERESoc also organizes a range of social activities designed to promote a sense of community within the MERE School. From barbecues and bowling to picnics and formal dinners, these events offer students a chance to relax and unwind, while also getting to know their classmates and building lasting friendships.

  • The Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) is an international body representing Petroleum Engineers and Oil and Gas Professionals. It acts as a connecting platform for engineers around the world to support technical knowledge as well as industry growth.

Similarly, the SPE UNSW Student Chapter represents students aspiring to pursue a career in the petroleum industry. Established in 1986 alongside Australia’s first undergraduate Bachelor of Petroleum Engineering, we’re a proud and strong community of more than 100 members and alumni worldwide.

We maximise industry exposure and provide valuable opportunities for personal and professional development. These include hosting company visits, organising interstate field trips, inviting industry to present technical talks, an annual Student Dinner and various social activities.

SPE UNSW encourages all petroleum students to join us, for the best possible experience at UNSW and networks that propel you far and high in your career.
