At UNSW Medicine & Health, we provide postgraduate research candidates with training in academic and professional skills to prepare them for their future careers. As a postgraduate research candidate, your training will balance key theoretical aspects with practical hands-on skills that are crucial for your success in the workplace.

The Higher Degree Research (HDR) Peer Support Program is designed to support the transition of first year HDR candidates into UNSW. This program enables HDR candidates to share resources, tips and advice, and network with others in the program.

The Careers Team from UNSW Employability runs programs to help UNSW HDR candidates to critically think about their current path and career opportunities and assist them in laying the foundation for a successful future career transition. Contact us for more information.
The Researcher Development Unit offers workshops and events for researchers to support skills training, opportunities for practical experience and to develop career readiness within candidates.

3 Minute Thesis competition 

All researchers require a number of critical skills. Most importantly, you must be able to communicate your work and present its importance to different audiences. The 3 Minute Thesis (3MT) competition allows you to demonstrate both skills simultaneously.

As a UNSW Medicine & Health postgraduate research candidate, you'll have access to a range of industry programs to strengthen your industry interactions, support your research and prepare you for your future career. HDR Extend, developed by the Researcher Development Unit, is a resource to help you to navigate your postgraduate research candidature at UNSW and your career options upon completion.

UNSW Library Research consultations connect researchers with the information and skills required to support their research, answer specific research queries, locate information tools and develop research strategies tailored to individual or group needs. 

Stats Central provides free consulting services to postgraduate research candidates. It can offer advice on the design of your study and provide information on short courses and monthly seminars. 

The Learning Centre offers academic skills support to all UNSW postgraduate research candidates.
