Access financial support through a payment plan

If you’re a continuing international or domestic fee-paying student facing unexpected financial hardship and having difficulty paying your tuition fees, you can apply for a payment plan. These plans are designed to help you meet your financial obligations during unforeseen or exceptional circumstances.

Who is eligible for a tuition fee payment plan?

Payment plans are available under specific conditions:

  • They are not usually available to commencing students.

  • They must be applied for before the payment due date and will only be applied for the current enrolment period. Past debt will not be approved for a payment plan.Ìý

  • They are not available to students eligible for Commonwealth assistance (FEE-HELP, HECS-HELP, SA-HELP) or Commonwealth support.

  • They are not available to non-award students.

  • They will not be approved after the census date of your enrolment.

Please be aware that if you can’t demonstrate unforeseen or exceptional circumstances, your request may not be approved.

How do I apply for a tuition fee payment plan?

You must submit an application to be granted a payment plan. Here are the steps to follow:

  1. Download the .Ìý
  2. Complete the form and write a detailed personal statement explaining your financial difficulties and why you cannot pay by the due date.
  3. Send your application to:Ìý

Please ensure you submit your application by the for the relevant semester/term. Applications are assessed individually and an administrative fee of $100 applies if your application is approved. You will receive a response within 5 working days.

How do the instalments work?

If you are approved for a payment plan, you must:

  • Pay at least one-third of your total liability and your SSAF charges (if eligible) before submitting your application.

  • The remaining charges are typically paid in monthly instalments over the next two months.

  • If you need an alternate arrangement, detail your preference in your application.

  • Payment plans are limited to the current semester/term and cannot be extended.

How do I cancel my payment plan?

If your circumstances improve and you no longer need a payment plan, you can cancel by emailing the Student Financials Team at fees@unsw.edu.au. Note that if your payment plan has been activated, the administrative fee is non-refundable.
